ArtsNational Shoalhaven October Lecture

ArtsNational Shoalhaven October Lecture

Thu 03 Oct 2024, 9:30 AM - 9:30 AM

Berry Uniting Church

On 1 August, we were transported to the exotic land of the Moghul rulers, where we became spellbound by the magnificent palaces, gardens, mosques and mausoleums. Dr John Stevens mesmerised us as he

delivered a powerful and intellectually stimulating dissertation on the glory of India! We are looking forward to another fantastic evening in October diving into the works of Constantin Brancusi. Tickets can be

purchased at the door and includes a glass of sparkling wine with fellow art lovers after the lecture. For more information on future lectures or joining ANShoalhaven go to www.artsnational.au. Follow us on our Facebook page and Instagram: ArtsNational Shoalhaven.

CONSTANTIN BRANCUSI

3 October 2024 - 7.30pm

Presented by Rosalind Whyte

Berry Uniting Church Hall, 71-77 Albert Street Berry

At the beginning of his career, Romanian sculptor Brancusi spent a couple of months working in Auguste Rodin’s studio, leaving because of his conviction that “Nothing can grow under big trees.” Breaking out from beneath Rodin’s shadow, he became one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th-century and a pioneer of modernism. His work was so radical and simplified that it caused controversy, not least when American customs officials refused to accept his Bird in Space as a work of art at all! We will explore his life and career and feature some of his key works.

Rosalind Whyte holds a BA and MA from Goldsmith’s College, and an MA (distinction) from Birkbeck College.  She is an experienced guide at Tate Britain, the Tate Modern, the Royal Academy and The National Maritime Museum, Greenwich. She lectures at the Tate, to independent art societies and on cruises.

Visitors are welcome. Visitors $25 and Student Visitors $15, tickets purchased at the door.
