S.A.F.E. Kiama

I'm Denis Balding and have been a rate paying resident for over 40 years. Retired now from being manager & part owner of Gerringong Hardware & Building.

For sometime I have been of the view that Kiama Council focuses far too much on the needs of developers and tourists and not enough on the needs of rate paying residents.

Ratepayers are the backbones of our community but seem a forgotten majority.

I’ve joined the S.A.F.E Team in order to bring about a much needed change.

We are not anti development but want to see sustainable and visually pleasing development with thorough and proper infrastructure planning.

Our team will be working hard to ensure that development height limits are strictly adhered to.

We want a transparent council. All incidents involving ratepayer funds will have full public disclosure, nothing will be hidden away from public scrutiny.

We will examine Council’s tree removal policy which allows developers, Council included, to cut down perfectly healthy trees at will, yet will not allow a resident to remove a dangerous and destructive tree under any circumstances.

And finally we will work hard to keep our wonderful harbour and precinct out of State Government hands.
