Candy Andersen

Team Reilly

Candy has been a South Coast resident for 23 years and a Kiama resident for the last 17 years. She started her professional career as a high school French teacher in Sydney, and has since pursued careers in educational management, public service and tourism accommodation management.

From 2007 – 2018, Candy owned the management rights to Terralong Terrace Apartments in central Kiama and was a proactive partner of Destination Kiama as well as a member of the Kiama and District Business Chamber. In order to fulfill a wide range of management and business roles, Candy understood early on the importance of education and the need to continue learning, whether that be in the form of upskilling or retraining. She learnt that change is the only constant in life and adaptability an essential skill.

Candy also recognized the importance of establishing and maintaining links with the wider community. She has been passionate about promoting the South Coast generally and the Kiama LGA in particular; not only from a business point of view, but also environmentally (due to her appreciation of its natural environment), which she feels it is essential to conserve.

Since retiring in December 2018, Candy has been free to focus more on giving back to the community. She is now actively involved as a volunteer with Kiama Community Radio, believing this to be an effective, fun and interesting way of encouraging and maintaining connections with community members.

Her objectives in terms of Kiama Council management align strongly with Team Reilly’s focus on a clear community engagement strategy that incorporates innovation, collaboration, integrity, and procedures that ensure transparency and accountability.

Candy feels that we all share the responsibility of ensuring a balance between the ongoing development of our area and the conservation of our historic heritage and environmental resources. She is a strong supporter of the creative arts/cultural sector as well as any services that provide help to disadvantaged members of the community.
