Team Reilly
Pamela has spent most of her life working in education at one level or another. After working at every level of the education system in Australia, she moved laterally and was Director of Electoral Education with the Australian Electoral Commission where she was responsible for all educational interventions and where she implemented the first Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) election. Once her kids had grown and flown, Pamela went overseas, initially as an Australian volunteer, and later working for the major UN agencies who deal with education.
Pamela worked in more than twenty countries in emergency education (situations of conflict and crisis). While she started working in refugee contexts, this later developed to rebuilding education management structures and upgrading the teacher training programmes to improve access and quality. A big part of this was a programme on skills for constructive living (Peace Education). This focussed on developing constructive skills for problem solving as well as good governance and reconciliation.
These skills (and values) mesh with the aims of Team Reilly.
Since living in Kiama, Pamela has been involved in U3A and is currently the Newsletter editor. She is a member of Kiama Anglican Church, newly appointed to the Parish Council. In addition, she is the co-ordinator of the ESL (English as a Second Language) course held at the church.
Pamela has demonstrated a lifetime’s commitment to social justice. She feels very strongly about integrity in all walks of life, particularly in service to the community. Because of this she is anxious to support the vision and strategies of Team Reilly in launching a better council.
