A new road connecting Illaroo Road in Bangalee with Moss Vale Road at Bells Lane is now open, creating a crucial link between Cambewarra and Nowra.

Fully funded by the Australian Government at $35 million, the Far North Collector Road enhances access to Badagarang and offers an alternative route to the new Nowra Bridge.

The new road, named Bannada Way, aims to reduce traffic congestion, noise pollution and travel times. The name comes after consultation with local Dharawal language experts. The word ‘bannada’ is southern Dharawal for Bomaderry Creek or ‘running water.’

The Far North Collector Road project was divided into four stages that saw the installation of four new bridges and three roundabouts, providing 250 jobs during the construction. The project involved 60,000 tonnes of bridging and drainage layer, 6,000 tonnes of asphalt and 10,800 tonnes of concrete.

Fiona Phillips, MP for Gilmore says, “The new bridge is reducing traffic congestion in the Nowra area, with the Far North Collector Road upgrades ensuring that as this popular region grows, its roads are ready for the increased demands.”
