Kiama Netball Association has received a $5000 grant from Woolworth’s Pick Fresh Play Fresh grants program to help get the courts in tip top condition.

“We’ve had to clean our courts, which cost about $4500, because there’s been a build up of fungus from the wet weather and there was also lots of ash and dirt left over from the bushfires of 2020,” says President Rhonda Beedles.

“It made the courts very slippery and they needed to be cleaned to get the girls playing again.

“It’s really, really good to get this funding to help out that extra bit.”

The Association has seven hard courts and two grass courts and Rhonda says they’ve been greatly impacted by the wet weather.

“It’s just been too wet to play even on the two grass courts but it’s all go now that the hard courts have been cleaned,” she says.

“We also want to use some of the grant for a new PA system and to get an automated system for the bell.”

On a side note, the Kiama Netball under 15 representative team was also crowned the Division 4 winners in the Netball NSW Senior State Titles held in Camden over the June long weekend (11-13 June).

“They played six games each day and after the first day they hadn’t lost a game so they were doing really well,” says Rhonda.

“It was a really good weekend and it’s the first time this team has won a title.”

Kiama’s under 17 team also competed in the Senior State Titles in division 2 and finished in eighth place out of 22 teams. This was the first time the Senior State Titles have been held in two years due to covid cancellations.
