A statement from Council has confirmed its first option for remodelling the Blue Haven Advisory Board, following the resignation of five of its six external members (Blue Haven Advisory Board resignations), has fallen through.
At the time of the resignations, Council said it was “considering and will continue to explore options including the potential to remodel the Blue Haven Board as a key component of its current Audit Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC).”
ARIC is Council’s preeminent committee, providing independent assurance and assistance on risk management, control framework, external accountability, legislative compliance, internal audit, external audit and process improvement responsibilities.
The statement from Council on this latest development says, “At its meeting on 14 June, ARIC discussed whether it would be appropriate for a Blue Haven Advisory Board to be formed as a sub-group of ARIC. After a healthy and constructive exchange of ideas, the members of ARIC voted not to support this concept as they felt it would be outside their regulatory remit.
“ARIC has a clear set of regulations that prevented them from taking on the Blue Haven Advisory Board role. As an advisory board to Council there were concerns regarding responsibility for governance strategy and risk.”
A discussion paper will now go to councillors with other options and/or recommendations for remodelling the Blue Haven Advisory Board.
