We’ve been invaded! Some might say it occurred in the 1700 s, but this invasion is far more prolonged and is still occurring.

What has invaded our borders you might ask ? Introduced weeds and flowers woody shrubs is the answer.

Kiama municipality is the host to five out of the top ten felons. Asparagus fern , lantana, wild tobacco , blackberry and privet. Plus a host of others. These have exploded over the last few years with the unseasonably wet conditions.

What can be done? The kiama municipality might be short of the dollars but we are not short of a supply of supple fit retirees or retirees that want to become supple and fit.

A combination of the kiama council’s environmental staff, an audit,, and appropriate training would be a great start to maniple this growing problem.

Not only would they be doing the environment a service but think of the health and social benefits to those intrepid volunteers. Currently there are some magnificent individuals doing grey work along with land care and of course Friends of Minnamurra Rainforest. Over to you kiama council.
