Kiama Boomerang Bags, a project of Reduce Reuse Recycle Kiama, is holding an Open Day to show what the group does, and offering visitors the opportunity to make their own fabric shopping bag while they are there.
“We will be sewing on the day and doing our normal activities so people can determine if it’s something they’d be interested in joining,” says Karen Fowler.
“We have some well qualified ladies who are ex-sewing teachers from school and TAFE to teach people how to make the bags.
“No one needs to bring anything; we’ve got all the equipment and everything set up.”
Karen says that the group is open to anyone to join, with a range of other jobs for those that don’t want to sew, including screen printing, ironing, cutting and matching fabrics.
About 15-20 members gather together for the cause on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Saturday 13 August, Iluka Reserve Tennis Clubhouse, Kiama Downs from 10-4pm
