For those who are unable or advised not to attend the Local ANZAC Day commemorations being held on Sunday, which are expected to attract the usual large crowds, the Light Up the Dawn campaign is again an alternative community gathering of remembrance.
One group continuing last year's tradition are the neighbours at the top end of Manning St.
"A lot of people can't get to Blowhole Point, but they can get out to the footpath," says Peter Mitchell, who served in Vietnam.
He suggests everyone tune to the same radio station for the service for continuity - Radio National FM 90.9.
Light Up the Dawn organisers encourage people to light a candle, hang an Australian flag or to make a red poppy, to remember those who served and sacrificed for our country.
