Developer's response to South Kiama rezoning review

The developer behind the South Kiama Planning Proposal, Graham Morcom of White Constructions, has expressed his frustration at the delay in the rezoning process that will be caused by the Minister of Planning, Rob Stokes, calling for an independent review (South Kiama decision to be reviewed).

"It is Minister Stokes' prerogative to request independent peer review of his own department (DPIE), after all he is in charge and that is part of the process," said Mr Morcom in a statement.

"The planning proposal has been reviewed three times by NSW local and state government/agencies and has been determined under the Environmental Planning Assessment Act that strategic merit and site specific merit has been accepted and recommended that the LEP be amended. After three different groups of review one must assume nothing further to see there.

"The longer this process is delayed and due to lack of supply for new sites the amount of pent up demand in the local community increases the price and is preventing young persons in and around the local area of securing a building lot and driving them further away from their family unit due to no supply."

It is expected the review will be undertaken early next year.
