Motorists are reminded that double demerits will be in force this long weekend and are encouraged to take extra care on local roads across our region.
Daylight savings also come to an end this Easter Sunday, at 3am on 4 April when clocks go back an hour to 2am.
The double demerit point period for Easter begins after midnight tonight and will continue until midnight on Monday 5 April.
“There will be an increased local Police presence on the Princes Highway and other local roads across our region this Easter long weekend,” says Gareth Ward, Member for Kiama.
“Motorists are reminded to keep to the speed limit, drive to the local weather conditions and take plenty of rest breaks to avoid fatigue whilst driving.”
There will be no excuses for speeding and motorists who ignore the road rules, especially during double demerit periods, risk losing their licence.
“Officers are ready to apprehend rogue drivers before they destroy their lives or the lives of other innocent families,” says Mr. Ward.
“Learner and provisional drivers should be aware they will receive an automatic licence suspension for any speeding offence during the double demerit period.
“One death on our roads is one too many, so please slow down, drive to the conditions, respect other motorists and obey the road rules.”
