Dr Christa Wood of Gerringong has been recognised as the 2025 Kiama Electorate Woman of the Year. Member for Kiama Gareth Ward announced the honour at the NSW Women of the Year Awards ceremony in Sydney.
Dr Wood is well known for her contributions to the local community, particularly in supporting people living with dementia. In 2022, she founded the Alchemy Chorus South Coast, an inclusive choir welcoming those with dementia and their care partners. She also runs Dementia Inclusive Dancing at the Mayflower Retirement Village in Gerringong.
Beyond her advocacy work, Dr Wood is actively involved in the Gerringong Rotary Club and Markets, the Berry Writers’ Festival, and Gerringong’s ‘Pics & Flicks’ film program.
Mr Ward praised Dr Wood’s dedication, describing her as a “selfless community contributor” whose efforts have strengthened local connections and inclusivity.
“Dr Wood embodies the spirit of service above self,” he said. “Her work has had a profound impact on the community, and this recognition is well deserved.”
The announcement comes ahead of International Women’s Day, which will be celebrated on Saturday, 8 March 2025.
