Gareth Ward, the sitting MP for Kiama, has moved ahead in today’s counting of the prepolls made in Kiama.
Election expert Antony Green has said on Twitter, “Big result for Gareth Ward at the Kiama Early Vote Centre likely to put him neck and neck with Labor's Katelin McInerney when the preference count is reported.”
With 66% of the vote counted, Ms McInerney has 51.1% of the vote after preferences, leading by just 665 votes.
Prepolls made in Nowra were only commenced late this afternoon - all 6,500 of them - so the situation will be much clearer tomorrow.
Assuming the result is close, postal votes will not be counted until next Monday, which could delay the outcome.
NSW Labor is looking for one more seat to give it majority government.
