Electorate honour for Maggie Dent

Gerringong’s Maggie Dent is the 2021 Kiama Electorate Woman of the Year.

“A writer and author, a teacher and educator, a mother, grandmother and wonderful person, I am thrilled to announce Gerringong’s Maggie Dent as the 2021 Kiama Electorate Woman of the Year,” said the Member for Kiama, Gareth Ward.

“Commonly known as the ‘queen of common sense’, Maggie Dent has become one of Australia’s favourite parenting authors and educators, with a particular interest in the early years, adolescence and resilience.

“Maggie’s experience includes working for almost two decades as a secondary teacher before moving into counselling, and working in the palliative care/funeral services and suicide prevention.

“Maggie is the author of 11 books, including her 2018 bestseller Mothering Our Boys

“She is a prolific creator of resources for parents, adolescents, teachers and early childhood educators, and others who are interested in quietly improving their lives.”

Ms Dent has been a strong supporter of initiatives to improve youth mental health given the tragedies experienced locally last year, advising Gezza Cares, Makuta and Kiama & District Stronger Community.

The next opportunity to hear her speak locally is at a two hour seminar, organised by Kiama Public School P&C, focusing on her new book, From the Sandpit to Adulthood. The proceeds from a raffle of her books will go to the School.

Details: Wednesday 31 March, Kiama Pavilion, $20 tickets available here.
