Extension of Public Exhibition of Akuna Street Development

Kiama Council wishes to announce the extension of the public exhibition period for the proposed development on Akuna St (DA 10.2023.220.1) until 5pm, Monday 1 April 2024.

Jessica Rippon, Director of Planning, Environment, and Communities, stated that the exhibition period has been prolonged by an additional 17 days, making the total exhibition period 31 days, or one month.

Ms. Rippon explained, "Given the considerable public interest in this intricate development, it is deemed appropriate to provide our community with more time to stay informed."

She encouraged everyone to seize this opportunity to review the plans for Akuna Street firsthand and understand the proposed changes better.

"The extended period will assist individuals interested in the project to comprehensively grasp the application details and submit well-informed feedback," Ms. Rippon added.

Due to the significance and scale of the development, the application will be evaluated by the Southern Regional Planning Panel, a panel of experts appointed by the NSW Government and Kiama Council to assess regionally significant development applications.

Councillor Stuart Larkins stated: “I know there is a lot of community interest in the Akuna Street site, and the proposed development application. I’m pleased to have advocated for a two-week extension of community feedback, and I’d encourage people to raise their feedback directly through the process for proper consideration.”

The proposed development encompasses a multi-storey, mixed-use structure, featuring 344 basement car parking spaces, 24 retail premises, 2 supermarkets, and 82 shop-top residential units.
