Things that glow in the dark are the subject of this month’s Jamberoo Nature and Environment Talk held by Jamberoo CWA.
The speaker is local bioluminescence enthusiast and photographer, David Finlay, who regularly talks about astronomy and science subjects on ABC radio.
“The nature talk will focus on bioluminescent organisms and how to find and photograph them,” says David.
“If you live in the Jamberoo and Kiama area you may even find some of these creatures in your own backyard.”
Bioluminescence occurs widely in marine vertebrates and invertebrates, as well as in some fungi, microorganisms including some bacteria, and terrestrial arthropods such as fireflies.

David will use his photography to help the audience experience the magic of sea sparkles, ghostly glowing fungi, fireflies and glow worms.
The talk is suitable for all ages and admission is $5 for adults and free for school-age children. All proceeds go to the Jamberoo CWA.
Monday 25 July, 7pm, in the Jamberoo Youth Hall (directly behind the IGA).
