A shed containing vintage bikes and memorabilia was well ablaze when the Rural Fire Service arrived at a property on Jerrara Road just after noon, and their quick work saved the rest of the property.
“We received a triple 0 call to a shed alight and a structure near a home, possibly a caravan,” says David Hitchens, District Officer for the Rural Fire Service.
“Fortunately, the owner was able to remove the caravan without sustaining any damage.
“However, a 10x10m shed housing some a substantial number of both new and old motorcycles were well alight when we got here.”
It took the firefighters an hour to control the fire, given they were confronted with gas cylinders, fuel in the motorcycles, and an historic truck parked outside.
“Once the ceiling collapsed, we needed to fight it externally,” says Officer Hitchens.
“We were able to contain the fire to the shed only and save the nearby property.”
A number of fire trucks and two hazmat vans were called to the property to help with the fire.
“Given the location water supply was a substantial issue so we needed extra resources on site,” says Officer Hitchens.
The property is at the eastern end of Jerrara Road, near Jamberoo Road. It is believed noone was at home when the fire started.
