In a recent development, the Gerringong Christmas Parade, a much-anticipated and much loved annual tradition, will not be taking place this year. Gerringong Rotary, communicating with The Bugle, confirmed the unfortunate cancellation, dashing hopes raised earlier in the year that the Rotary might revive the event they hadn't overseen for four years.
Previously, a dedicated committee of four women had been responsible for orchestrating the festive spectacle, but they had already announced their inability to continue with the parade's organisation in May. Gerringong Christmas Parade

Traditionally held on December 17th, the Gerringong Christmas Parade required an extensive amount of planning, traffic management, insurance, grant applications, and coordination of floats, schools, Mayflower, sports teams, clubs, and even securing police permissions, among other logistical challenges. These complexities, along with increased compliance requirements, contributed to the decision to call off the parade.
The Gerringong Christmas Parade committee released a statement to The Bugle, expressing their regret, "The committee has decided to step down, so there will be no parade this year. We had hoped someone would take it on, but unfortunately, no one came forward."
Gerringong Rotary explained their inability to step in, noting, "Gerringong Rotary have not run the Parade for around four years. A group got together to organise it but have now dropped out. Sad, but the costs and organisation became much greater, partly due to compliance requirements."
A major event, Gerringong residents and visitors alike will miss the festive spirit that the Christmas Parade has brought to their community for many years.
