The Paris Olympic Games will officially kick off in the City Of Light tonight with around 6800 athletes from 206 nations, including Australia, parading down the Seine River.

Australians who want to watch the opening ceremony will need to be up before the sun, with the event broadcast at 4.30am tomorrow (AEST) and running for around three hours.

Paddler Jessica Fox and hockey veteran Eddie Ockenden will proudly fly the Aussie flag when they travel for six kilometres along the Seine onboard one of more than 90 boats. It is the first time in Olympic history that an opening ceremony has not been held in a stadium.
