2021 is definitely Kieran Woolley’s year.

After going to the Olympics, the Minnamurra skateboarder has now taken out his fourth Illawarra Academy of Sport’s (IAS) BluescopeWIN Lonestar Athlete of the Year Award, as well as getting a double page ad in Thrasher Magazine as a new team rider for skate brand, Monarch Project.

Kieran, who previously won the Athlete of the Year Award in 2017, 2018 and 2019, has made history for the Academy by becoming the first athlete to compete at an Olympic Games whilst still on scholarship.

He is still in the United States, and is making the most of it.

“My plan was a quick month long trip to America after Tokyo to put the hotel quarantine off, but my plans changed quickly when Australia locked down harder - my flight home got cancelled and I got stranded in the States,” says Kieran.

“I'm definitely not complaining. I've been out skating every day, shooting photos and trying to get as many clips as possible.

“Living the life in Oceanside/San Diego, surfing most days and hanging with good mates.”

Kieran also recently joined the Monarch Project team alongside fellow Olympic skateboarders Leticia Bufoni from Brazil and Sky Brown from Great Britain.

“Monarch has released a little welcome to the team clip and I had a double-page ad in the latest Thrasher mag!” says Kieran.

“I also went viral on TikTok randomly, with one of my videos reaching almost 7 million views.”

Making the most of his time in America, Kieran has just come back from a skate trip to Oregon and plans to return to Australia for Christmas.

“My loose plan for the next little while is a visit to Mexico, hopefully a Monarch team trip to Barcelona, back to the States and then maybe back to Australia for Christmas.”

He will be turning 18 in November.
