Indoor rowers from Jamberoo’s Swan Athletic have come home from the Pan Pacific Masters Games held in Queensland with gold medals, broken records and new personal bests.

Nardia Guillaumier and rower Michelle Brennan competed across the five main rowing events and Nardia in the relay.

Nardia brought home an outstanding five gold medals, one silver medal and broke the 2019 Australian record in the 40-49 age group with 326 metres rowed in one minute.

“It was a bit of a shock but without Alan Swan’s coaching, I would not have been able to row anywhere near like I did. His rowing technique is pretty amazing and his coaching at the competition was fantastic,” Nardia says.

Michelle received one silver medal in the 100 metre row, beating her personal best, two bronze medals and placed fourth in two events.

Alan says, “Neither of them are particularly experienced in big events like that so it was a big thing to take on. I was absolutely thrilled with how well they went.

“In terms of our rowing program, it’s a great confidence booster that we’re on the right track with what we do and that it’s producing results that stand up against really strong competition.”

Michelle says she will try to improve and attend next year’s competition while Nardia has her eyes set on beating another record, although she won’t say which as she doesn’t want to jinx it.
