Continuing severe weather conditions have caused Destination Kiama to cancel today's IGNITE Kiama Winter Festival.

"The severe weather warning in place predicts wind gusts of up to 90 km/h, meaning we could not safely stage activities such as the fireworks display," says Destination Kiama.

"This decision was made in the interest of the safety of the 5,000 people expected to attend today's event."

The hard decision was made after consulting the Bureau of Meteorology, NSW Police and the fireworks operator.
