Legendary Wallaby captain John Eales AM will be the guest speaker at a luncheon to celebrate the 50th year of the Kiama Sevens.
"To have someone like John Eales acknowledging what Kiama Rugby and the Sevens have done for the rugby community is tremendous," says the Tournament Director, Mark Bryant.
"We certainly give more back and for him to come down and speak for us is a pat on the back for all the volunteers."
John will talk about his Rugby career and his life in business since his retirement. A Queenslander, he never had the opportunity to compete at Kiama but knows many who have.
Tickets for the luncheon are available here.
Prior to the luncheon, footballs with club names on them are going to be dispersed from a Cleary Bros agitator for the draw.
Fittingly, this year will see 44 teams compete for $50,000 in prize money spread across seven finals, with a new 2nd Division women's competition this year.
"Both the men's Cleary Bros Cup and the women's Sebel Vase are equal prize money of $10,000," says Mark, who is expecting over 5000 people at the Showground for the 50th event on Saturday 26 February.
"Many of the clubs are treating it like a reunion and bringing old players down."
With it being a bigger event than normal, Mark is looking for some extra people to lend a hand on the Friday for set up, and on the day. Contact him on 0439 640 896 or use the enquiry form at www.kiamasevens.com
