Kiama Council urges vigilance ahead of forecasted severe weather

Residents and visitors of Kiama are being urged to stay vigilant as the State Emergency Service (SES) issues warnings for potentially severe weather conditions expected tomorrow, Friday 5 April.

The SES has issued a warning advising individuals to take precautionary measures immediately in anticipation of damaging winds and heavy rainfall. The forecast also includes the possibility of dangerous and life threatening flash flooding.

To ensure safety during these conditions, residents are advised to undertake the following measures:

  • Trim Trees and Branches: Identify and trim any trees or branches around your property that could potentially fall and cause damage.
  • Secure Vehicles: Park vehicles undercover and away from trees, powerlines, and drains to prevent any potential hazards.
  • Secure Outdoor Items: Secure loose outdoor items such as furniture and garden equipment to prevent them from becoming projectiles in strong winds.
  • Prepare Emergency Kit: Assemble an emergency kit containing essentials such as non-perishable food, water, a torch, batteries, and a first aid kit.

Kiama Council recommends staying informed by regularly checking updates from authoritative sources such as the NSW SES and the Bureau of Meteorology. These platforms provide the latest information and guidance to help individuals through severe weather events.

For immediate life-threatening situations, including incidents on roads, individuals are urged to contact emergency services by dialling 000. Additionally, for non-life-threatening emergency assistance during floods and storms, residents can reach out to the SES on 132 500.
