Kiama Library will receive a $1000 share of the more than $100,000 on offer under the Anzac Community Grants Program to commemorate veterans across NSW and reflect on the spirit of remembrance.
Kiama Library will use the money to host a series of art workshops during the April School Holidays, accompanied by storytelling. Local veterans, representatives from the RSL and the Kiama Family History Centre are invited to attend to tell “soldier stories” to help inspire children’s paintings.
The artwork will be showcased across Kiama Library’s exhibition spaces and at Kiama Council Chambers. There will also be an official opening event, where all are invited to participate and celebrate the recently forged creations.
The Anzac Community Grants Program offers small grants up to $3000 for projects that promote the Anzac spirit and honour those who sacrificed their lives for the Australian way of life.
“It is great to see so many organisations, especially our schools, keen to honour our veterans and their contributions in their communities.,” said NSW Minister for Veterans David Harris.
“And that is what this program is for – to fund great projects that not only recognise Australia’s war service history, but importantly also educate a new generation and support the wellbeing of the NSW veteran community.”
