Kiama traffic gridlock

On Saturday 6 January 2024, The Red Hot Summer Tour lived up to its name with a hot summer Kiama day drawing thousands of locals to the Showground.

However, unlike the well praised traffic management for Kiama’s 2023/24 NYE fireworks which attracted more than 15,000 visitors, no free shuttle bus was on offer from the Kiama Leisure Centre, where the car park was half empty.

The signs were still up from NYE  but no shuttle service was on offer 6 days later for Red Hot Summer despite the large numbers of expected visitors.

Many visitors however heeded the organisers warnings about congestion and traveled by train, with the trains arriving before the event completely full of hundreds of visitors walking down to the Showground from the Kiama Railway Station for the extremely popular event.
