Knit up a storm Locals knitting at Kiama Library last year.

Worldwide Knit in Public Day will connect knitters around the world twice in our region this year.

Tomorrow (7 June), a thank-you afternoon tea for the dedicated knit group at Bonaira Care Home will be held at Matterson Hall. This group have been meeting each week for the past year to knit and chat.

Everyone is welcome to join the afternoon tea, where there will be a display of ‘two dozen of the best’ Wrap With Love blankets made in the Kiama area this year. Entertainment will be provided by the new ukulele group based at Bonaira ILU.

On the following day (8 June), needles will be clicking at Gerringong Library and Museum for the region’s second free public event.

“A special effort has been made this year to support provision of Wrap With Love blankets to those still affected by flood and fire and who face re-housing challenges in NSW,” says Wrap with Love co-ordinators Boni and Peter Maywald and Thea Blanch. “And internationally, for those affected by the major quake disasters that so severely impacted Syria and Turkiye.

Just this week, we have also arranged for a delivery of our display blankets this June long weekend to residents of Eugowra (in the Carbonne Council area) where 80 per cent of the town was swept away by severe rapid flooding in November 2022.”
