NSW Labor has this afternoon called the seat of Gilmore for the sitting member Fiona Phillips. (UPDATE: Liberal sources say it is still a very close race and too early to call yet.)
At the moment, she leads the count by a mere 222 votes, but the State organisation is confident she will have the numbers in the close contest.
Announcing the news on facebook, Mrs Phillips said, “Delighted to see NSW Labor this afternoon call the seat of Gilmore for me, which will see me returned as the Member for Gilmore.
“Thank you to everyone for supporting me.
“I would also like to congratulate my opponents and wish them well.
“I look forward to getting back to work and supporting people right across our wonderful region.”
Until Monday, the Liberal candidate Andrew Constance was in the lead and it had been thought the result was too close to call until counting finishes on Friday.
Mr Constance has been contacted for comment.
Only one other Federal seat is yet to be decided.
