Learn about Advanced Care Directives

Kiama Anglican Church is running a talk this weekend for the NSW Seniors Festival on the importance of having an Advanced Care Directive.

“An Advanced Care Directive is a document that describes your wishes if you are not capable of making your own wishes known,” says Roe Kitchin, who's organising the event.

“It includes things like when you do and when you don't want to be resuscitated, whether you would want to be housed in an aged care centre or never want to leave your home or in an extreme example, if you could no longer talk would that mean you still want to live or not.

“We’ve got two doctors to give a talk on the day, Linda Moore who’s a GP and Connie Muir, who’s a medical officer.

“They’re both integral parts of the process because the medical officer is the one who has to find the document in the middle of the night if it came to that situation and know what to put in place.

“They will each give a talk about how, why and when to do the Directives and explain the medical terms so people understand what they are making decisions about and then it will open up to questions and answers from the floor.”

Free afternoon tea will also be provided.

It will be on Saturday 26 March at Kiama Anglican Church from 2-3.30pm. To book ring 42322066 or email, [email protected]
