Organisers have confirmed that the next L'Etape Australia event will be held on Sunday 28 November, as well as foreshadowing that it will hold an event on the same weekend in 2022.
The date, and the change of day to Sunday, was first mooted in community consultation meetings in mid-April, which were followed by extensive consultation with the three councils involved and community members.
Keen to avoid the logistical criticisms of their previous attempt to hold the event (which had to be called off due to torrential rain), there will now be no road closures on the Saturday. Saturdays are particularly busy for sport and weddings in our area.
“This date has been confirmed following a number of considerations brought to our attention through our discussions with community members and key stakeholders” says Megan Peters, Community Liaison Officer for L’Étape Australia.
“We appreciate the input of the many people we spoke to in relation to the date, some of whom amended arrangements to accommodate us, and we would like to thank them for their support of bringing L’Étape Australia to life in the region.”
November has been identified as the quietest month of the year behind the winter months, as well as providing ideal event conditions.
Road closure information, including hard closure times, will be released in the coming months following an extensive approval process.
The organiser, Lateral Events, is keen to keep people informed throughout the leadup to the event. You can register on their mailing list here.
Local businesses are also being encouraged to contact the organisers at [email protected] to discuss ways in which the increased visitation can have a positive impact on their operations and how the event can increase exposure for their business through on ground activities.
