In the lead up to the next Federal election, which could be before the end of this year, Liberal Party heavyweights will be visiting the area on a regular basis to bolster their chances of regaining the marginal seat of Gilmore from Labor’s Fiona Phillips.
The Foreign Minister and Minister for Women, Marise Payne, and Senator Jim Molan are currently touring the area meeting with party faithful and the local community.
“The period between the sitting weeks is a great chance to get ministers out to have as many opportunities to talk to people as we possibly can,” said Senator Molan.
“As the Prime Minister said to all of us, the election will be won this year, whether it is held this year or not.”
Yesterday, he visited Kiama’s e-commerce success story, Bridie Stewart of Mary Maker Studio, to find out more about her booming macrame supplies business with an international following. Unfortunately, the Foreign Minister was detained by matters of State and sent her regrets.
“What Bridie has done on a personal and business front is quite inspirational,” said Senator Molan.
“It was great to meet her and her husband Joel [of Lime Construction].
“Small businesses are the people who employ and create wealth.”
The Liberal candidate for the next election is likely to be endorsed in the middle of the year.
