Thanks for the offer to contribute to the housing issues.
I personally have advocated to the council to consider rezoning areas.
Too often they want to look at higher densities in the middle of town however there are properties like mine, zoned R5 Rural land within the town limits along South Kiama Dr and Stewart Place with big blocks. The limits on these properties means you can only build a granny flat for every 1000m2.
I sit at 1920m2 so am unable to build a teeny tiny 60m2 granny flat. Yet densities on the inner town are at 400/450m2.
Surely we can modify these options for the other zones to create additional dwellings and people who own those pieces of land can opt in.
We don't have to use greenfield land all the time. There are exisiting options right now to build new dwellings for people to either own or rent out.
I just heard a report on ABC this morning that a housing report in Syd for reviewing my exact suggestion reported the possibility of an additional 650,000 homes!!!
The Council is stuck in an old way of thinking. I do agree limits on Airbnb need to be introduced to get landlords to consider renting out permanently instead.
