NaNoWriMo: marking National Novel Writing Month

Kiama Library and Gerringong Library are running a series of workshops to inspire young authors with tips and tricks to get them motivated.

The NaNoWriMo: National Novel Writing Month Workshops will teach aspiring authors how to craft an atmosphere with words alone, conduct an interview (maybe The Bugle could learn a thing or two!) and what it takes to write the perfect first page.

Guiding the attendees will be authors, A.L. Tait (7 November at Gerringong), Kell Woods (14 November at Kiama), Jeff Apter (21 November at Gerringong) and Tori Haschka (28 November at Kiama).

A.L. Tait is a bestselling author of epic fiction for kids aged 9+. She penned the middle-grade adventure series ‘The Mapmaker Chronicles’ and ‘The Ateban Cipher’, and new novel ‘The Fire Star‘ (A Maven & Reeve Mystery). Allison is also a podcaster, speaker and teacher.

Kell Woods is an Australian historical fantasy author, and writes books that blend fairy tales, fantasy, history, and folklore. Her debut novel ‘After the Forest’ is being published in October 2023. Kell studied English literature, creative writing, and librarianship, so she could always be surrounded by stories.

Jeff Apter is the author of more than thirty books about music and musicians. His biography subjects include AC/DC's Bon Scott and the Young brothers, Daniel Johns of Silverchair, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Marc Hunter, Neil Finn, Jeff Backley, Shirl Strachan (Skyhooks), Keith Urban and more. He also was co-writer/ghost writer for Kasey Chambers and Michael Browning, cricketer Michael Slater and soccer star Tim Cahill.

Tori Haschka tells stories about food and family. She is a Sydney-based author, food writer and mum of two. Her articles have featured in Grazia, The Times, the Guardian, Mammamia and the Sydney Morning Herald and her blog eatori.com was ranked by Saveur as one of the five best food and travel blogs in the world. Grace Under Pressure is her first novel.
