New Advisory Committees looking for members

Individuals wanting to make a contribution to the LGA are being invited to apply to sit on one of Council’s new advisory committees - the Infrastructure and Liveability Advisory Committee and the Sustainable Communities Advisory Committee [New advisory committees format].

Candidates do not need to have technical expertise, as that can be brought in when needed, but do need to have strong community connections.

Three positions are available on each of the committees, with applications via Council’s website closing Sunday 4 June.

“These committees bring together councillors, key staff, representatives of community groups, government agencies and specialist advisers,” says Mayor Neil Reilly.

“They tackle all sorts of issues using their combined experience and expertise in an amazing range of areas, drawing upon additional advice where necessary.”

The Infrastructure and Liveability Advisory Committee will concern itself with matters to do with Pillar 4 of Council’s Community Strategic Plan 2022-32: We are part of a connected and liveable community.

This will include providing expert advice on the development of strategies around plans of management, asset management plans, major projects, sports and recreation plans, and the like; as well as reviewing and monitoring the implementation of Pillar 4 strategies.

The Sustainable Communities Advisory Committee will deal with matters to do with Pillar 1 - We belong and contribute - and Pillar 2 - We thrive in a sustainable environment.

This will include matters to do with the Coastal Management Program, significant strategic planning documents eg heritage strategies, rural plans, vegetation management documents, Development Control Plans, Disability inclusion action plan and child safe standards, Greater Cities Commission plans and more. It will also have a review and monitoring role.

“I strongly urge everyone who can contribute their time, skills and experience to consider throwing their hat in the ring,” says Mayor Reilly

“We need a committee system that not only drives our community’s shared vision for the future but is representative of our community as well.”

The roles are voluntary and require a minimum commitment of attending one meeting every two months for two years or more.
