Update 8 October: The Deputy Premier Paul Toole has said that the public health order is being changed to not allow the day trips mentioned below. More clarification as it comes to hand.
In an extraordinary development that will be welcome news for most, the Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has established that fully vaccinated people will be able to travel between LGAs, including Greater Sydney, from Monday.
But only for day trips – overnight stays (classified as holidays) are not permitted unless you are from a regional LGA and are visiting another region.
Having reviewed the latest Public Health Orders, Mr Ward put a series of questions to the NSW Government ahead of the State’s first reopening milestone on Monday.
“In response to my questions the NSW Government has advised that travel between regional NSW and Greater Sydney will be permissible for fully vaccinated people from next Monday so long as that travel isn’t for the purposes of a holiday. In surprising news, the NSW Government has confirmed that this easing of restrictions applies for all of NSW not just regional people,” Mr Ward said.
“This means if you live in Kiama and want to catch up with family in Shellharbour, you can. If you live in Wollongong and want to visit family in Kangaroo Valley, you can.
“If you want to travel to Sydney to visit your favourite restaurant or go for a walk around the harbour, you can.”
If you are not vaccinated, you still have to follow the stay at home orders.
“I don’t write the rules, I am simply explaining them,” says Mr Ward.
