No election recountStuart Larkins' place on the new Council has been confirmed

The Electoral Commission will not be conducting a recount of the Kiama election, as requested by Tanya George of the Kiama Greens yesterday when she lost by just eight votes after preferences.

A notification to candidates from the Commission says, "The Commissioner is not satisfied that a recount should be conducted on the grounds provided in the request."

The results announced yesterday will be declared by the Returning Officer, and the successful candidates will be sworn in on 11 January.

If a full recount had been approved, it could have cost Kiama Council in the region of $150,000.

The new councillors will be:

  • Stuart Larkins, Labor
  • Neil Reilly, Team Reilly
