PM's visit emphasises the importance of GilmoreThe main Gilmore candidates: Andrew Constance, Fiona Phillips and Carmel McCallum

The importance of Gilmore in the Federal Election has been highlighted already, with the Prime Minister Scott Morrison choosing to visit Nowra on the first full day of the campaign.

He has come to announce - with his hand-picked candidate for the seat, Andrew Constance – a $40 million commitment by the Morrison Government will deliver local road upgrades across the Shoalhaven.

The upgrades, all in the Shoalhaven LGA, improve safety and address the maintenance backlog created by recent weather events and the increased traffic movements.

Mr Constance says he had worked with local residents and the Shoalhaven City Council to identify priority upgrades, “Local communities across our region know that I’ll always go into bat for them – that’s my track record as a State Member and what I want to keep delivering for Gilmore.

“We are a growing region and that means we need growing investment.”

There are four candidates competing for Gilmore:

  • Fiona Phillips, ALP (sitting member)
  • Andrew Constance, Liberal
  • Carmel McCallum, The Greens
  • Jordan Maloney, United Australia Party.

Gilmore was the only seat gained by Labor at the 2019 election, with a 3.3 per cent swing after preferences.
