Most people are aware by now that on 14 September 2024, during the local government elections, voters in Kiama will face a significant decision via a referendum: should the method of electing the mayor be changed? Currently, the nine councillors elect the mayor, but Kiama is asking whether you would prefer a popularly elected major in the future
Hopefully, also most people are aware by now, that The Bugle has taken the initiative to organise a public debate to explore the pros and cons of the referendum. This will take place on July 31 starting at 6 pm, at the Kiama Leagues Club and all are welcome to attend.
You will hear the For and Against arguments, articulated by:
We would like to ‘test the waters’ to ascertain what the community is currently thinking and a second poll will be run after the debate which Kiama Community Radio will be sharing.
