Safety measures introduced

The escalating COVID situation has caused the cancellation of a number of events in our region, including the Mike Nock concert, the Kiama Masonic Lodge open day, the Water Runners album launch and the Kiama Rotary Changeover Dinner, along with the postponement of the Sunday performance of the Classical Kiama violin concert.

In addition, yesterday Kiama Council advised any guests in their holiday parks that have come from or been to Greater Sydney (including the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour) on or after 21 June 2021, to return home.

All guests that this applies to have been advised directly and provided with either a refund or an alternative option via park operators, along with people in that category who had a booking over the next two weeks.

CEO Jane Stroud said “Whilst we appreciate how disappointing it is to have to leave our beautiful our area right now, and understand the inconvenience of cancelling holidays, we must all follow the health directives and do our part to stay safe.

“Our parks can remain open to guests that do not fall within the stay at home orders.

“We know that reducing the number of visitors to our community is difficult for local businesses and tourism operators, but we all must comply with the requirements in place.

“It is important for us all to comply with the health directives in place, stay home and avoid non-essential travel."

In addition, changes have been announced for Council operations. These include:

  • masks being mandatory in all Council facilities
  • the 28 June Extraordinary Council Meeting being closed to the public (webcast available)
  • encouraging people to contact Council via phone or email
  • changes to Library and Leisure Centre activities.
