Jamberoo Croquet Club is busy setting up hoops and marquees ahead of hosting Croquet NSW biggest event of the year, the Golf Croquet Division 1 Pennant Finals this Wednesday and Thursday.
“We’re over the moon about it. We’ve got the opportunity of showing off our facilities to other players and clubs,” says President of the Club, Stephen Milton.
He says all spectators are in for a show, including trick shots.
“These players are top in the State, so people will see some of the best in action.”
The finals will see three teams go head-to-head in what will be a ‘very interesting and tactical game’, according to Stephen, who is encouraging people to use the occasion to find out more about the sport.
Single and double games will be played with the first team to reach seven hoops named the winner.
Stephen Milton is looking forward to hosting the State's best
Unfortunately, the Jamberoo Croquet team, which includes Peter Olsen who was the third best croquet player in the world in 1982, lost to Canberra last week and will not be competing in the finals.
Despite this, Stephen hopes hosting the event will be the beginning of welcoming more people into the club.
There are plans to have lights installed across the fields so they can hold twilight games, with the hopes of encouraging young people to join.
He says if you would like to find out more, see a member at the Club while you are out there.
The finals are on 16 and 17 November all day from 8 am at the Club on Churchill St.
