Last week saw sporting success for a number of Ss Peter and Paul Catholic School students.
The school’s Senior Girls Relay team came second at the NSWPSSA Primary Athletics Championships, missing out by one tenth of a second in the finals after coming first in all heats and in the semi-finals.
Staff and students cheered the girls on as they watched them earn the title as the second fastest relay team across all public, independent and Catholic schools in NSW live from class.
Acting Assistant Princial of Ss Peter and Paul, Emma Groves, says this is the first time the school has been so close to winning.
“We really value sporting achievements at our school and the staff and community are incredibly proud of the girls,” Ms Groves says.
“Throughout the competition they displayed remarkable talent, positivity, dedication, sportspersonship and teamwork.
“We want to express our gratitude to their families for their support and encouragement.
“All of these girls are off to high school next year where they will continue their endeavours. Obviously, they are very talented so I am sure they will experience many opportunities.”
Two of the girls also competed in individual events. Ginger Siasat came 15th overall in the 100 metre sprint, and Imogen Moore was 19th overall in the 200 metre and 10th overall in long jump.
Meanwhile, another Ss Peter and Paul's Year 6 student, Austin Craig (above), was off competing in the Australian Championships Football Tournament.
Austin was one of two boys selected in the Wollongong Diocese to represent NSW in the games held in Western Australia.
He scored two goals and made three assists as the team tied third overall in the country.
“Austin has done an incredible job making it to the Australian Championships and our school community is very proud of his sporting endeavours. We looking forward to seeing more of this superstar in the future,” Ms Groves says.
