Amongst the damage done in our region overnight, a massive tree was uprooted in the storm in Kiama early this morning, falling on two cars, a boat and a camper trailer that were parked in the driveway.
“I was lying in bed at half past one this morning and heard a crash like a tin can being crushed,” says Aaron Lawson, who lives in the house in Pullen Place.
“We flew outside and I thought it was just a branch and then I took a few more steps outside the door and actually realised it was the whole tree that had come down.
“We’re also worried about the tree behind it which hasn’t fallen down yet but it’s got quite a large lean on it heading towards the house.
“SES is going to clean up all this stuff now and we’re going to go from there.
“Thanks to SES, the homeowner and the Real Estate who have been fabulous so far and very supportive of what’s happened.”
At the time of reporting SES were arriving on scene to clean up the tree and plans have been made with Kiama Council to cut the second tree that stands closer to the home.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the wind speed peaked at 91km/h at 9:09am this morning.
Over the past week Kiama Unit SES volunteers have attended to more than 125 calls for help following torrential rain, including several urgent flood rescues for people stuck in floodwaters.
