The United Services Union is continuing its campaign for Kiama Council to retain its Blue Haven Bonaira aged care operations, holding a public meeting tonight to release the findings of its own report on the situation.
“It has found that if Kiama Council sell off then services to residents will decrease, that at the end of day there will be increased costs to residents in Blue Haven and the wages of the employees will be significantly reduced,” says the USU’s Rudi Oppitz.
The report was prepared by Associate Professor Martin O’Brien.
Despite Council reaffirming its commitment to selling Blue Haven Bonaira, and the services located there, at its February Meeting, Mr Oppitz says the fight isn’t over.
“It is not over until it is over. They are now looking for submissions on reclassifying the public land that it is on [Reclassification of Bonaira land commences]. There is a long way to go yet.”
