The upgrades to two netball courts and the car park at Albion Park Rail are near completion, according to a media release from the Shellharbour City Council.

As part of the McDonald Park Master Plan, the turf netball courts will be replaced with two hard surface courts, lighting will be added to enable extended use of the courts as well as connection footpaths for improved accessibility.

The upgrades to the main car park, located on Tongarra Road, include a proper entry and exit, a new bitumen surface, lighting, connection footpaths, drainage and landscaping works.

Shellharbour Mayor Chris Homer said that the new additions to McDonald Park cater to the increasing demand for sport in the area.

ā€œAlbion Park Netball Club has more than tripled its membership over the past six years, going from five to 16 teams,ā€ Mayor Homer said.

The upgrades are paid for by the Shellharbour City Council ($600,000) and a contribution from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program ($740,000).
