Kiama Council is to hold an Extraordinary Meeting with the sole aim of releasing the letter from the Auditor General to the Minister for Local Government to the public [Council's response to Audit Office letter call].
The letter is understood to outline the Office’s view on key risks around legislative breaches; adequacy of books and records; and Council’s going concern status [Brown calls for release of Audit Office letter].
The CEO was copied into the letter, and circulated it to councillors on a confidential basis on the morning after the August Meeting.
“I always wanted to release it, but we had to find a way to make it legally possible,” says Mayor Neil Reilly.
“In my view, the letter from the Audit Office should be on the public record. Once we table it, it will be available.”
A date has not yet been set for the meeting, but now the meeting has been called it must be held within 14 days.
