A driver unfamiliar with the area found himself in a precarious position after taking a wrong turn in Kiama early this morning.

According to a community member, the man was travelling from Gerringong to Wollongong when he mistakenly drove down Spring Creek Drive, continuing straight into Hutchinson Street—only to end up wedged in thick vegetation at the dead-end.

Police attended the scene and confirmed the driver was not over the alcohol limit but took him in for further assessment.

Community members spotted the vehicle partially submerged in greenery, with police tape wrapped around it, adding to the curiosity of passers-by.

Local residents say this isn’t the first time confusion over the road layout has caused trouble, but this incident is certainly one of the more dramatic detours.
