Blue Haven board recruitment underwayKiama is one of the largest local government providers of aged care services in Australia

Locals with professional experience in governance and the provision of aged care service only have until Monday to nominate as non-executive board members of Council's Blue Haven Illawarra.

“I’m looking for super-talented, independent experts such as gerontologists, academics and recently retired former commercial executives who are stretch thinkers that still want to be involved in guiding the aged care sector,” says Kiama Council CEO Jane Stroud.

As detailed in our article New management structure for Blue Haven, Council is creating the Blue Haven Advisory Board as a direct result of the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aged Care, which has brought about legislative amendments to improve governance and compliance.

“In aged care services right now, the Royal Commission recommendations are changing the way the service operates and we need to ensure we are actioning these important directions and keeping up with the industry times,” says Ms Stroud.

The Advisory Board will be made up of two councillors and five independent experts, who are being sought via Board Direction. Applications opened on Monday, and close this Monday, 30 August.

Advisory Board Members will receive remunerations 'commensurate with other Local Government appointments'.

The new COO position is also being advertised by specialist aged care recruiters.
