On Sunday 15 December the morning’s hot weather didn’t deter the smiling volunteers from the Jamberoo Rural Fire Brigade from taking out their fire trucks and walking the streets of Jamberoo to collect donated non-perishable food to support the work of the Salvation Army.
The morning’s efforts by a hard-working 18-member crew wrapped up the Brigade’s annual Christmas food drive, continuing a far-sighted initiative established nine years ago by veteran firey John Friedmann.

The Brigade’s food drive has always been supported by Elders Jamberoo and Fredericks IGA, as well as by the people of Jamberoo, with a great tradition of giving being established over the years. In 2024, even though many people are experiencing financial hardship, the Brigade was again able to collect a literal truckload of donated food items, now on their way to Warilla for distribution by the Salvation Army to those in need over the festive season.

Brigade Captain Hannah McInerney expressed her appreciation for the generosity of local residents and Jamberoo businesses. She said that the brigade members always look forward to the event and see it as another opportunity for them to give back to their community.
