Kiama Historical Society talk – 21 October

Right in our backyard! Join the Kiama & District Historical Society (KDHS) for an enlightening talk by Kiama's own Rick Scott-Murphy. The presentation is titled 'Creating and Preserving Canberra's Heritage: An Insider's Perspective.'

Rick Scott-Murphy is a respected member of KDHS and brings a wealth of knowledge to this discussion. As a retired civil engineer and senior Commonwealth Public Servant, he has a profound interest in various facets of Canberra's built environment. Mr Murphy's career includes serving as the CEO of the Kingston Foreshore Development Authority and holding key positions within the Commonwealth Department of Finance, such as Acting Deputy Secretary of the Asset Management Group and First Assistant Secretary of the Property and Construction Division.

Mr. Murphy played a key role in several significant cultural and heritage projects, which are now iconic in our nation's capital. These projects encompass the National Portrait Gallery, the restoration of The Lodge, the redevelopment of the Royal Australian Mint, and the fascinating transformation of the historic Kingston Powerhouse into the Canberra Glassworks. His passions extend to environmental and social sustainability within the built environment.

Most KDHS members are undoubtedly familiar with these iconic structures and are eager to hear an insider's firsthand account of these nationally significant construction and restoration endeavours.

The event is on Saturday 21 October 21 at 2pm at the Kiama Library Auditorium, located on Railway Parade. Ticket prices: $3 for members and $5 for non-members. After the talk, join KDHS for afternoon tea and an opportunity to engage in discussion and networking.
